In 1952, on 23rd of July, the Egyptian revolution began by the Free Officers Movement. They had multiple purposes: they wanted to abolish the constitutional monarchy of Egypt (with King Faruq) & Sudan, establish a republic and of course they wanted to end the British occupation.
This revolution lead to the Suez Crisis in '56.
